Easy and Cheap Way to Organize Your Scarves

I have several scarves and I never use them.  It's not that they're not pretty, I absolutely love them!  The problem is I've never been happy with how I've stored them in the past.  My personal scarf organizing journey went on for years so beware because this is a long post that will drone on an on about how befuddling organizing scarves can be.  If you share in your frustrations with me then read on.

Once or twice every winter I would reassess why I never wear scarves, trying in vain to figure out a solution only to feel disappointed time and time again when my ideas wouldn't work out.  When I first started collecting scarves I would hang them on a belt rack on the wall in my closet.  The problem with that option was I quickly ran out of room as I could only get maybe six of the suckers on there.  I liked the method okay, just didn't love it and I needed more room.

Then I searched on Pinterest and came across a great idea, attach shower rings to a clothes hanger then loop the scarves in the shower rings.  I couldn't stand how all the scarves on the shower rings would fall to one side of the hanger leaving it wonky with one corner of the hanger pointing towards the floor and the other corner pointing towards the ceiling.  Plus I didn't like to mess with carefully taking the scarf out of the ring and putting it back every time.

Then I tried another method that's often blogged about which is to simply tie them directly to the hanger bar itself.  Ummm, no.  Too much time is involved in that, plus I would always seem to tie them in different directions so that that knot would either face me or face away me.  None were consistent and it made my OCD brain hurt.

My most recent failed attempt was to buy an actual hanger designed for scarves and jewelry (two of them in fact) that looked like this:

I hung the both of them off the back of my coat closet door with command hooks and while they were the best solution so far, my scarves still sat untouched.  The problem with this version was it was just too hard for me to unhook the scarves, wear them, and put them back without some agitation of some sort when I was in a hurry to leave.  Plus it seemed like they were all jammed on there, my collection was limited to the room these hanger provided, and it just didn't look very pretty gosh darn it!

You might say I'm being picky and perhaps I am.  But I live a pretty hectic life and if something isn't easy or convenient for me to use then I just don't want to take the time to bother with it.  Finally after several months and even years of owning the same scarves and never having worn them (not one single time, ever) I decided to Google search images of scarf organizing ideas and low and behold I came across the perfect one for me.

It's a shoe organizer!  I searched high and low for one with clear pockets because I wanted to be able to easily see the scarves without having to take them out of their pockets.  I quickly found one on Amazon for $11 and purchased it.  The version I bought came with over the door hangers but I didn't want them showing on the other side of the door so I just used small command hooks to hang the organizer at the top.

I just love how easily I can see my scarves, how fast I can grab one before I head out the door, and how quickly I can put them away when I come home.  All I have to do is shove them back into their pouches and close my closet door.

I love my new system so much I just had to share it in case anyone else has experienced scarf storage drama like I have!  Best of all, you probably already have one of these shoe organizers somewhere in your house already.  And for those wondering, yes I'm actually wearing my scarves now and not just looking at them in my closet like I used to.
